Using a self care pet

I've been working on my patient story section this week but still not quite finished so I thought I would talk briefly about using a Self care pet to help keep me going after cancer. I didn't find the app until after I had finished treatments but I have found it immensely useful tool for healing. It's focused on mental health and has a whole range of breathing exercises, mental health quizzes, daily tasks, a cute pet to grow as you grow. For me I wanted to focus on giving time to myself and my self care. It felt really selfish at first but then as I continued with it, I saw a change in myself. Giving myself love and space to decompress allowed me to be more calm and present. I've always been a bit of a hot-head, and I do think that sometimes you just need to scream it out. But I don't want to scream at my friends and family. I want to be able to communicate clearly my needs. It has allowed me to accept myself when I have messed up relationships, or walked away from relationships that are exhausting, or just when I needed to rest. 

Personally I pay for the app because it's been a vital mental health tool. It's allowed me to put my mental health first and focus on gratitude rather than criticism. 

It's been a vital tool on a journey to self love rather than self loathing and self destruction. It's slow progress and I often mess up, but I know that my Finch is there to listen. It's all encrypted as it's a mental health app so doesn't use A.I. 

Jeffrey Marsh spoke this week in their blog about the self love storage. You are making deposits that can be collected at a later date when you need it most. The more deposits we make into that little bank, the more we have to cash in. Often when I feel stressed, I try to take a moment to breathe and speak kindly to myself. A simple, "you're doing okay" can do wonders.
